Urban Infrastructure facilities

An annual investment of over hundreds of billion Yuan input in fixed assets has not only spurred the rapid development of the local economy, but also laid a solid foundation for future development. Year 2005 saw the accumulative investment in fixed assets amounting to 282.72 billion Yuan. Implemented investment for infrastructure in 2005 equaled 61.07 billion Yuan, reaching a record high in Beijing's infrastructure investment history.

  Urban Transportation

sqsl-csjs-3.gif (23633 字节)Beijing has an advanced transportation network system, there were 626 public bus routes in operation in 2005 (including Mini-bus, public trolley), with a total length of 19,000 km, and 114 km in railroad. Over 20,000 public buses and over 7,0000 taxis in service. 

There were altogether 2.146 million vehicles in Beijing, with 1.54 million private ones, among which 9.92 million were cars. As one of the biggest railroad transportation hubs in China, Beijing is connected with most of the large and medium cites of the country by direct trains, railroad traffic in 2005 reached 60.384 billion people/times.  Beijing was also an air traffic center with over 200 international routes leading to major cities around the world. Civil aviation totaled over 30 million people/times. Beijing International Airport, with its newly opened terminal, became one of the busiest air traffic centers in Asia.

  Post and Telecommunication

Beijing has established postal communications with virtually all countries and areas around the world.  Residents in Beijing can reach people in all cities within China via direct domestic long distance phone calls and reach people in about 260 foreign countries and districts via direct international phone calls.  By the end of 2005, fixed telephone lines in Beijing reached 9.435 million, in the meantime, Mobile phone subscribers in Beijing reached 14.598 million.  In addition, new value-added telecommunication services like data- communication, multimedia, Internet and mobile phone messages have developed rapidly.

  Environmental protection and forestation

sqsl-csjs-2.gif (21590 字节)Beijing witnesses significant improvement in terms of air quality.  In 2005, two hundred thirty four days in Beijing were rated to have good and excellent air quality, 5 days more than last year, account for 64.1% of total days of the year.

In 2005, daily urban sewage processing capability reached 3.24 million tons, annual sewage processing rate equaled 62.4%, the usage of recycled water was 259.81 million cube meters.

About 81.2% of the city and 95.2% of the urban garbage in 2005 was processed to be environmentally harmless.
